NZ Funds

NZFunds

Founded in 1988 NZ Funds is an active portfolio manager. Their funds have a wide investment mandate, based around traditional portfolios with an international focus, complemented with a range of financial assets including derivatives, leverage, commodities and alternative assets.

This allows them to seek L-T growth, which can come with increased volatility.

NZ Funds believe that listed shares and bonds remain central to long-term investing and therefore to managing New Zealander’s wealth. However, they also believe that New Zealanders should also benefit from access to additional asset classes and modern investment techniques, adopted in many global markets such as the United States, United Kingdom and Australia.

As a result, NZ Funds also actively considers the additional asset classes of alternative assets (hedge funds), currencies and commodities to provide more broadly diversified portfolios for their clients. They adopt this approach in recognition of the fact that diversification is one of the undisputed tenets of finance. Diversification improves risk-adjusted returns over time.

The additional asset classes NZ Funds invests in are all highly liquid and have full, daily price discovery. They advise that this is important as it means risk can be managed (for example, by selling at a moment’s notice) and clients’ investments can be accurately priced so that transactions can occur daily without investor inequity.
